Conservative political activist – and former managing director of the Australian Christian Lobby – Lyle Shelton will be returning to his old stomping ground next month to speak at several venues in the South Burnett.<\/p>\n

Mr Shelton was born in Wondai and raised on his parents’ farm at Chelmsford.<\/p>\n

He was formerly a pastor at the Toowoomba City Church and served on the then-Toowoomba City Council from 2000 to 2006 during which time he campaigned for the ultimately successful “No” vote on the use of recycled water in Toowoomba.<\/p>\n

He resigned from Council to stand unsuccessfully for The Nationals in the seat of Toowoomba North at the 2006 State elections.<\/sup><\/p>\n

Mr Shelton was a prominent spokesperson for the “No” campaign during the 2017 same-sex marriage postal vote, and has also campaigned against poker machines and the Safe Schools program.<\/p>\n

In February 2018, Shelton resigned from the ACL to join Cory Bernardi’s Australian Conservatives party as federal communications director. He stood unsuccessfully for the Senate at this year’s Federal election.<\/p>\n

The party was deregistered in June this year.<\/p>\n

Mr Shelton will be speaking in the South Burnett about his role as a Christian in public life.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He will be a guest of the Barambah Shed Men at John Kratzmann’s property in Windera on September 14, and will speak the following morning at the Wondai Baptist Church. That evening, he will be the guest speaker at a combined churches gathering at the Murgon Baptist Church.<\/p>\n

Cost to attend the Shed Men event is $15 (which includes a meal, dessert, soft drinks, tea\/coffee). Youth under 15 are free.<\/p>\n

Mr Shelton was the target of a verbal attack by Innovation and Tourism Industry Development Kate Jones on Thursday after reports he had been hired to work in the LNP’s Oodgeroo electorate office.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ms Jones called on Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington to refuse Mr Shelton\u2019s membership of the LNP, claiming he supported\u00a0gay conversion therapy and had actively protested against women\u2019s rights.<\/p>\n

\u201cMr Shelton does not represent the views of ordinary Queenslanders,” Ms Jones said.<\/p>\n
