The South Burnett Community Family Fun Day – a fundraiser for the LifeFlight Foundation – is on the move again … this time Nanango will be playing host!<\/p>\n

Last year the fun day, the brainchild of Kingaroy resident Cardell Turner, raised about $17,600 for the rescue helicopter service.<\/p>\n

This year, he’s hoping for even more …<\/p>\n

Cardell launched the fun day in 2017 as part of an effort to repay LifeFlight for the care they provided when he suffered an horrific motorbike accident in 2016.<\/p>\n

He broke 12 ribs, several vertebrae, punctured his lung and cracked his chest wall \u2013 and wasn\u2019t expected to survive.<\/p>\n

But the LifeFlight helicopter, with a critical care doctor on board, reached him in time.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cardell organised the inaugural Fun Day in Kingaroy’s Memorial Park by himself, but last year he had a committee helping him.<\/p>\n

This bigger event, which included a pre-fun day dinner and the new Top Gun Challenge (obstacle course, tug o\u2019 war and ute pull) , was shifted to the Kingaroy Showgrounds.<\/p>\n

This year Nanango Showgrounds will be the venue.<\/p>\n

The fundraising will begin again on Friday night (August 16) with a three-course meal at the showgrounds prepared by\u00a0Judy Crawford from J.C. Catering.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A special guest will be six-year-old Louis Brown who was severely injured as a toddler when he was kicked in the face by a horse.<\/p>\n

An RACQ LifeFlight helicopter flew Louis from Kingaroy Hospital to Brisbane for surgery,<\/p>\n

Other guests will include Mandy Hentschel and Jodi Durkin from LifeFlight.<\/p>\n

An auction on the night, which will include calcuttas on the following day’s pig races, will be conducted by John Allery, from Raine and Horne, Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

Entertainment will be provided by Ryza and Damien Martoo.<\/p>\n

Senior Sergeant Dave Tierney will be returning to the dunking tank this year<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The main day will kick off at noon on Saturday (August 17) at Nanango Showgrounds with Skin n’ Bone hitting the stage.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cardell said some of the entertainment on the day will include routines by Karate 4 Kids, La Cr\u00e8me Dance Academy, St John’s Lutheran School whipcracking team and acts from Waterhole Rocks.<\/p>\n

There will also be a show’n’shine with car owners able to enter on the day for a $5 entry fee.<\/p>\n

Noah’s Performance Racing Pigs will run three pig races. Fans can buy raffle tickets prior to each race to enter a sweepstakes to win cash on the winner (or bid in the calcutta at the dinner on Friday night).<\/p>\n

The muscle-testing Top Gun Challenge is back again this year.<\/p>\n

This consists of teams of five entering events which include an obstacle course, a team tug o’ war and a ute pull. A trophy is up for grabs in each event.<\/p>\n

Teams can enter the Top Gun Challenge online<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>or visit\u00a0Kingaroy Fitness Centre or Kingaroy Office Central.<\/p>\n

The dreaded Dunk Tank is also returning with a line-up of local personalities prepared to take up the challenge.<\/p>\n

These include Kingaroy Police officer-in-charge Dave Tierney who is returning along with South Burnett councillors including Danita Potter, Gavin Jones and Roz Frohloff.<\/p>\n

Food and drinks will be available from the Goomeri Lions, Taabinga Rotary and Bunya District Scouts plus three coffee vans and an ice cream van.<\/p>\n

A licensed bar will also be operating.<\/p>\n

For the children, there will be a laser assault course, merry-go-round and jumping castles.<\/p>\n

The presentation of trophies for the Top Gun Challenge will take place at 5:45pm.<\/p>\n
