St John’s school captain Ben Springhall gets a book autographed by Steven Herrick<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Aussie children’s author and poet Steven Herrick triggered some genuine “laugh out loud” moments when he visited St John’s Lutheran School in Kingaroy on Friday.<\/p>\n

About 100 students from Years 6-9 gathered in the school library to hear Steven read out humorous verses, create spontaneous poetry and share stories.<\/p>\n

Steven’s books have won numerous awards and have been shortlisted many times in the Children’s Book of the Year awards.<\/p>\n

He told the students he wrote his first poem, “Love Is Like A Gobstopper”, when he was just 18.<\/p>\n

His first novel, “Rhyming Boy”, was published in 2008.<\/p>\n

St John’s Year 7-9 English teacher Jodie Springhall said Steven’s books were very popular with students and were a great way to encourage reluctant readers.<\/p>\n

After the session, students queued to get copies of Steven’s books autographed.<\/p>\n
