Parents, friends and students packed the Kingaroy State High School Indoor Sports Building this morning for the investiture of student office bearers for 2013.<\/p>\n

Principal David Ballin said there were 1080 students enrolled in 2013, including 235 in Year 8 and 180 in Year 12. \u00a0Seven new staff members had joined the school and there were two international students and one exchange student.<\/p>\n

Guest speaker was South Burnett Mayor Wayne Kratzmann who spoke about leadership, his time as a student at Kingaroy SHS and why he had decided to run as Mayor.<\/p>\n

He congratulated the student leaders and said that to make a change in the world “you have to put your hand up”.<\/p>\n

“Often the hardest decision is making the decision,” he said.<\/p>\n

Certificates and badges were presented to Years 8-10 form captains by local school principals Susan Beatty (Taabinga SS), Debbie Hails (Kingaroy SS) and Helen Folker (St John’s).<\/p>\n

Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington and Mayor Kratzmann presented certificates and badges to Years 11-12 form captains, house captains, school captains, committee chairpersons and band, choir and dance captains.<\/p>\n

P&C President Debbie Jackson congratulated the students selected as office bearers and reminded them of the “5A’s” of good leadership: being A<\/strong>pproachable;\u00a0A<\/strong>cceptance of everyone;\u00a0A<\/strong>mbition – challenge yourself; being an A<\/strong>mbassador for the school and community; and being an A<\/strong>dvocate for those without the courage or confidence to speak for themselves.<\/p>\n

Maxine Tessmann, from the Kingaroy RSL Club, presented Kingaroy RSL Hospitality Awards to two Year 11 and two Year 12 students studying hospitality.<\/p>\n

Cr Damien Tessmann presented the Stefan Planic Memorial Bursary to Hannah Noll.<\/p>\n
