Federal MPs will be accepting submissions from Monday from community organisations, councils and sporting groups for grants for small capital projects under the\u00a0Stronger Communities Program<\/a><\/strong> (SCP).<\/p>\n

The Federal Government has allocated a total of $22.65 million for Round 5 of the popular program, with funding of up to $150,000 allotted to each Federal electorate.<\/p>\n

A maximum of 20 projects will be funded in each electorate and successful projects will receive a grant of between $2500 and $20,000.<\/p>\n

The projects will selected by local Federal MPs and their community consultation committees, and then submitted to the government for assessment.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The SCP has funded more than 7700 community-based projects across Australia since it started, including upgrades to community halls and clubhouses, equipment for aged care and day care facilities, men’s sheds and inflatable rescue boats.<\/p>\n

In the South Burnett, South Burnett First Aid Volunteers received funding in a previous round to improve car parking and accessibility at their training centre in Murgon.<\/p>\n

\u201cEligible organisations, including councils and incorporated not-for-profit community service and sporting groups, can apply for grants of between $2500 and $20,000, supported by matching cash or in-kind contributions from other sources for the project,” Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf your community group needs some extra help to get a project off the ground, I strongly encourage you to submit an expression of interest,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Community groups should contact the office of their local Federal MP for more information.<\/p>\n
