{"id":240965,"date":"2019-08-02T13:55:30","date_gmt":"2019-08-02T03:55:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=240965"},"modified":"2020-07-18T15:31:40","modified_gmt":"2020-07-18T05:31:40","slug":"toowoomba-business-continues-to-grow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2019\/08\/02\/toowoomba-business-continues-to-grow\/","title":{"rendered":"Toowoomba Business Continues To Grow"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_240966\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-240966\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/20190802antonio.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-240966\" src=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/20190802antonio.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/20190802antonio.jpg 620w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/20190802antonio-300x186.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-240966\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bruce McConnell (Food Leaders Australia), Geraldine Doumany (Food Leaders Australia), Paul Hodgson (NERA), Toowoomba mayor Paul Antonio, Ali Davenport (TSBE) and Lance McManus (TSBE) (Photo: TRC)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>August 2, 2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Gross Regional Product for the Toowoomba Region was more than $10.81 billion last year,\u00a0mayor Paul Antonio revealed in his annual State of the Region address on Thursday night.<\/p>\n<p>This represents a growth of 4.5 per cent during the past 12 months.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Antonio was speaking at a Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise (TSBE)\u00a0 Enterprise Evening in Toowoomba which attracted more than 250 business leaders.<\/p>\n<p>He also officially launched the Southern Queensland Innovation in Export Hub (SQ Export Hub), a new program designed and delivered by TSBE to support small to medium-sized businesses exploring export opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>The Federal Government provided $840,000, matched dollar-for-dollar by TSBE, to set up the Hub.<\/p>\n<p>The theme of Mayor Antonio&#8217;s State of the Region address was &#8220;Strength, Stability and a Mighty Future&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>He said he was pleased to report the regional economy was very strong.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe continue to outperform similar regional centres and our numbers rank well against State and National indicators,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cWith job growth expected to outpace population growth, our Council will play a key role in delivering and improving lifestyle attributes that will continue to attract skilled workers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur region\u2019s competitive advantages are enhanced by our leading education, health and retail facilities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe education sector has seen upgrades at many State and private schools, as well as TAFE and USQ\u2019s recent substantial investment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSimilarly, the city\u2019s private hospitals have completed multi-million dollar upgrades.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Antonio said he was delighted the development application for the Qantas Pilot Training Academy was starting to move.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a project, not only of regional importance but one of state and national significance,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur region has undergone significant change in recent years and we have been fortunate to secure unprecedented investment into the region.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cHow could we have known in 2012 that an airport would be built, that the Federal Government would finally approve the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing, that we would have a new datacentre, solar farms, or the initial approvals to commence construction of the Inland Rail in our region?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe question arises, what will be next? What will our planning policies need to accommodate over the next six to 10 years? Autonomous vehicles? Fast Rail? Smart Technology? Will it be intensive agriculture, and what will this look like?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Antonio predicted that rail would play a big part in the region\u2019s future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was excited to hear recently at a Darling Downs and South West Queensland Council of Mayors forum that the resumption of rail freight operations to western and south-west Queensland is imminent,\u201d Mayor Antonio said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe important part of this reinvigoration of rail transport is that it will be driven by the private sector looking at opportunities where there is a gap in the market.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Mayor also spoke about the importance of TSBE.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPartnerships are important in any Economic Development Strategy and I consider TSBE as one of the most important partners for progress,\u201d Mayor Antonio said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince its establishment as a wholly owned subsidiary of Council, TSBE has grown considerably to be regarded as the leading regional economic development organisation across Australia.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Gross Regional Product for the Toowoomba Region was more than $10.81 billion last year,\u00a0mayor Paul Antonio revealed in his annual State of the Region address on Thursday night.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":20,"featured_media":240966,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[5,22,3],"tags":[1131],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
