A quirky “eat in the street” dinner will be held in Nanango on August 31 to launch the town’s new Soundtrail app and – hopefully – mark the end of fundraising for the Butter Factory Park project.<\/p>\n

The dinner is being organised by the Nanango Tourism and Development Association and Little Drayton Street will be closed to traffic for the evening.<\/p>\n

Organisers will supply the tables, chairs and entertainment while diners need to bring along their own tablecloths, crockery, cutlery, food and drinks.<\/p>\n

Cost is $5 a head with funds raised going towards the Butter Factory Park all-abilities playground project.<\/p>\n

Spokesperson Jane Erkens said the community fundraising for the project had almost reached its $20,000 target.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Heritage Nanango Community Funding has promised to support the $80,000 playground by matching fundraising on a $3-for-$1 basis.<\/p>\n

Several raffles will be drawn on the night with funds going towards the project, including a $5-per-ticket raffle to win a $2400 ride-on mower.<\/p>\n

The evening will also provide an opportunity for the new Soundtrail app to be unveiled to the public.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was developed through a community grant from Heritage Bank.<\/p>\n

Tourists will be able to use the app to take a guided tour around Nanango’s historic CBD using nothing but their mobile phones or iPads.<\/p>\n

They will wander in and out of sound fields linked to GPS co-ordinates, hearing stories about the buildings and places they are passing.<\/p>\n

A sound recordist has visited Nanango on several occasions this year to record local residents’ stories for the app.<\/p>\n

Little Drayton Street will be closed from about 5:00pm to allow the tables to be set up, and diners will start arriving at 6:00pm.<\/p>\n

The laneway dinner near The Shed could be the first of many for Nanango.<\/p>\n

“We are hoping to make it a bit of a regular thing if it is successful,” Jane said.<\/p>\n
