Kingaroy teenager Holly Ferling may be turning heads in India because of her skills on a cricket pitch but now she’s also made it into State Parliament.<\/p>\n

Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington used her Private Member’s Statement time yesterday to praise the talents of the rising sports star who is part of the Australian Women’s Cricket Team which has earned a place in the ICC World Cup final:<\/p>\n

I would also like to talk about the young sports achievers in my electorate. In particular, Holly Ferling, a 17-year-old Kingaroy girl is currently playing for the Australian women\u2019s cricket team\u2014not the juniors, the actual women\u2019s cricket team.<\/p>\n

“At the moment she is in Mumbai. At 14, Holly was first noticed as she took a hat-trick with her first three balls whilst playing in the men\u2019s A grade team at Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

“Holly has been called in at the last minute to fill in for her idol, Australian dual international Elysse Perry, who was forced onto the sidelines because of a stomach bug.<\/p>\n

Holly is playing in only her second game for Australia and she has claimed three vital wickets … a perfect example of how great young regional sportswomen can rise through the ranks and represent their sport at a national level.<\/p>\n

“I also congratulate Holly for being named our Australia Day South Burnett Young Sportsperson of the Year.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

UPDATE February 18: Australia has defeated the West Indies by 114 runs to win the ICC Women\u2019s World Cup. Sadly, Holly didn’t get a run in the final but without her effort in earlier games, the team probably wouldn’t have been in the final.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
