Three people were lucky to escape serious injury in a spectacular collision involving a caravan on the Bunya Highway just outside Kingaroy on Thursday morning.<\/p>\n

An elderly couple in a Toyota LandCruiser, which was pulling the caravan, had to be cut free from their vehicle by the QFES after it plummeted an estimated 10 metres off the Stuart River Bridge about 10:15am.<\/p>\n

The vehicle landed upright in the grass below.<\/p>\n

The couple was taken by ambulance to Kingaroy Hospital with suspected minor injuries.<\/p>\n

The collision removed a stretch of the concrete safety railing from the eastern side of the bridge, which also fell into the grass below.<\/p>\n

The couple’s caravan remained on the bridge – on its side, and in pieces.<\/p>\n

The male driver of the second vehicle was not injured.<\/p>\n

Both vehicles are believed to have been travelling towards Kingaroy when the crash occurred.<\/p>\n

Police investigations into the cause of the collision are continuing.<\/p>\n

The highway was closed while emergency services attended the scene and the damaged vehicles and debris were removed.\u00a0Traffic was diverted via Stuart Valley Drive and Ellesmere Road.<\/p>\n

Inspectors from the Department of Transport and Main Roads will examine the damage to the bridge.<\/p>\n
