Toowoomba Regional Council is inviting comments from residents on a draft strategy\u00a0which aims to provide a blueprint for “recognising, engaging and supporting” young people aged 12 to 24.<\/p>\n

Cr Geoff McDonald said the Draft Youth Strategy 2019-2021 had received input from more than 700 young people, service providers, youth support workers, educators, emergency services personnel and councillors.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith more than 27,000 young people living in our region, it\u2019s important that young people are involved in the development of their communities and have opportunities to shape the topics and issues that matter most to them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The draft includes six focus areas for Council to implement in collaboration with partner organisations and the broader community over the next three years.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese focus areas are about helping young people have a voice and participate in government decision-making; linking with education providers, industry and community groups to enhance their employment opportunities and connecting with other young people in the region,” Cr McDonald said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are seeking community feedback on the draft strategy until July 31.”<\/p>\n

Feedback can be provided by completing an online survey on Council\u2019s Your Say website<\/a><\/strong>, by phoning\u00a013-18-72\u00a0or\u00a0by email<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Community feedback will be used to guide the development of the final strategy, which will be presented to Council for endorsement later this year.<\/p>\n
