A group of local women are breathing new life into a country tradition, experimenting with Twilight meetings to help attract new members to the\u00a0Queensland Country Women’s Association<\/p>\n

The QCWA launched a new Twilight Branch in Kingaroy on Wednesday night, designed to attract members who work during the day.<\/p>\n

Organiser Lois Thurecht, from the Elgin Vale QCWA branch, said there were a lot of younger women who had expressed an interest in joining the association but felt they couldn’t become involved because traditional QCWA meetings were held during the day.<\/p>\n

Lois said the concept of Twilight meetings – which can be held after-hours or on weekends – is spreading throughout the CWA movement in Australia.<\/p>\n

This is the first Twilight meeting in the South Burnett.<\/p>\n

The inaugural meeting, held in the 1913 Council Chambers in Edward Street, attracted a handful of possible new members plus two Younger Set members.<\/p>\n

Lois said she had also received a number of apologies, so she was hopeful attendance numbers would grow.<\/p>\n

QCWA Central Region vice-president Joy Coulson, a member of the QCWA State Executive, also attended the launch.<\/p>\n

She said women who were interested in the QCWA, but felt they could not attend meetings, could also join as “supporter” members online<\/strong><\/a> and enjoy many of the privileges of QCWA membership.<\/p>\n

The Kingaroy Twilight Branch plans to meet at the\u00a01913 Council Chambers from 5:30pm on the second Wednesday of every month from now on.<\/p>\n
