Taabinga Rotary Club is starting to gear up for Bookarama, its biggest fundraiser of the year … and they want to collect all your old, pre-loved books for it.<\/p>\n

The popular annual event pack Kingaroy Town Hall to the rafters with books of all descriptions for one weekend each September.<\/p>\n

Book lovers keen to snap up a bargain scour the extensive tables that cover almost every inch of the Town Hall, picking up anything from romance novels to instruction manuals and cookbooks to travel guides for just $1, $2 or $3 a copy.<\/p>\n

Parents who want to stock up their children’s library aren’t forgotten. either, with piles of children’s books available for as little as $5 a box.<\/p>\n

And for those who fall victim to hunger or thirst on their quest for book bargains, there’s also a Rotary barbecue and soft drinks on hand all weekend to provide relief.<\/p>\n

Last year’s Bookarama raised an astonishing $14,000 for the club – the biggest result yet – and the funds raised were split between the Kingaroy Hospital Auxiliary, the Royal Flying Doctor Service and the Buy A Bale drought relief program.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This year’s Bookarama will be held on September 7 (from 9:00am to 4:00pm) and September 8 (from 9:00am to noon) and Rotary have now put out a call for fresh books to help replenish their stocks.<\/p>\n

Books can be left at AKA Accounting in Murgon; Datawave Internet Services at Wondai; JA Carroll and Son Solicitors, Office National or Kingaroy Joinery in Kingaroy; and Flemings Garage and JA Carroll and Son Solicitors in Nanango.<\/p>\n

Shoppers can also drop off books in a special Bookarama collection bin at Kingaroy’s SupaIGA supermarket.<\/p>\n

On June 19, Taabinga Rotary held its annual changeover dinner at Kingaroy RSL, where 2018-19 president Ralph Clark handed over the torch to incoming 2019-20 president Paul Laurentiussen.<\/strong><\/p>\n

At the same dinner Mick McAuliffe was elected as Vice President; Ralph Clark as Treasurer; Kimberley Francis as Secretary; and Darryl Roberts as Bookarama organiser.<\/p>\n
