Three tonnes of unwanted paint have been returned to Brisbane for recycling following the inaugural visit by the Paintback program to Kingaroy last Saturday.<\/p>\n

The visit was organised by Simon Gibson, from Crowies Paints, in conjunction with Cleanaway.<\/p>\n

Simon said 53 vehicles visited the pop-up recycling point, set up inside Kingaroy Showgrounds, handing over old paint cans which had been lurking in sheds and garages.<\/p>\n

Individuals were invited to dispose of up to 100 litres of paint at no charge.<\/p>\n

Simon said the the paint tins collected on Saturday filled seven large vats.<\/p>\n

They were then taken back to Brisbane by truck.<\/p>\n

“I think the Paintback team were happy with the return,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Fingers crossed, we will be able to run it again, maybe every six months or annually.”<\/p>\n

Simon said he wanted to send a big thank you to Craig Lucas and the Kingaroy Showground for their support of the project.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy Scouts were also happy with the day.<\/strong><\/p>\n

They sold more than $50 worth of sausages at a barbecue set up beside the drop-off point as well as collecting half a trailer-load of recyclable containers, each worth 10c.<\/p>\n

Crowies Paints have been supporting the fund-raising efforts of the troop on Saturday mornings.<\/p>\n

The volunteers hold a sausage sizzle every Saturday from 8:00am to 1:00pm beside Crowies Paints in Youngman Street, Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

“We supply the barbecue, gas and the tent and they bring along the sausages,” Simon said.<\/p>\n

The scouts also bring along a trailer as a drop-off point for donated bottles and cans for Containers For Change.<\/p>\n

“We take them every week or fortnight to Cherbourg,” Bunya District Scouts secretary Lorraine Keenan said.<\/p>\n

“It’s a lot of work but a great reward for the scouts – it helps to pay for their activities.”<\/p>\n
