Karyn Bjelke-Petersen has been appointed principal at St John’s Lutheran School in Kingaroy after serving as joint acting principal for several months.<\/p>\n

A letter to parents from School Council chairman Warren Layt on Tuesday confirmed that Mrs Bjelke-Petersen would officially take over the role on July 1.<\/p>\n

“Karyn has been a long-term staff member and Assistant Principal of St John’s Lutheran School for many years,” Mr Layt wrote.<\/p>\n

“She has been a parent at the school and held various positions on our P&F since 1996 until her commencement of employment here in 2007.<\/p>\n

“She is a valued and well-respected member within our community and has extensive experience and a great passion for the school and Lutheran Education.”<\/p>\n

Long-serving St John\u2019s Lutheran School principal Helen Folker announced earlier this year that she would be retiring.<\/p>\n

Mrs Folker \u2013 who was one of the school\u2019s two founding teachers in 1989 \u2013 began long service leave in April ahead of her official departure.<\/p>\n

She was appointed principal in 2000.<\/p>\n

Mrs Folker said at the time that after 30 years of teaching and leadership it was time for someone new to take the helm.<\/p>\n
