South Burnett CTC held its annual CTC Day at Wondai Town Hall last week to look back over the past 12 months and prepare for the next year.<\/p>\n

CTC is a not-for-profit organisation that provides support for families, youth and foster carers in the South Burnett.<\/p>\n

It also provides respite options, runs the The Gumnut Place disability enterprise in Murgon and is one of the region\u2019s largest employers.<\/p>\n

The annual CTC Day provides an opportunity for employees from each of the arms of the organisation to socialise, get to know each other, complete team-building activities and enjoy lunch.<\/p>\n

The theme for the 2019 event was “well-being” and it featured talks from guest speakers on subjects connected with the topic, including financial well-being, superannuation and yoga.<\/p>\n

Volunteers from the QCWA Country Kitchens program discussed healthy eating and conducted a cooking demonstration.<\/p>\n

A road safety talk by the officer-in-charge of Kingaroy Police, Senior Sergeant David Tierney – who is also a CTC Board member – moved some people in the room to tears.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Snr Sgt Tierney shared his personal experiences of attending road crashes, of losing people he knew and of breaking the tragic news to families.<\/p>\n

As he explained … crashes are never “accidents”.<\/p>\n

The CTC employees then shared lunch before the highlight of the day: the annual presentation of awards.<\/p>\n

Five-year and 10-year service awards were presented as well as Service Awards to outstanding employees in each section.<\/p>\n

This year’s Service Awards winners were presented by CEO Nina Temperton to Melita Menere (Youth & Family Services, Kingaroy), Josh Brown (Gumnut Place), Melinda Bradford (HQ), Angie Fisher (Partners In Foster Care), Jen Lonsdale-Light (CROSB), Sandy Nebe (Connections) and Crete Phillips (Residential).<\/p>\n

The main award on the day is the Howard Leisemann STAR Award.<\/p>\n

\u201cSTAR\u201d stands for \u201cService, Teamwork, Attitude and Reliability\u201d and is given to an employee who has demonstrated these qualities over a long period.<\/p>\n

It was first awarded by CTC in 2010.<\/p>\n

The 2019 winner was Jane Sims, the team leader for administration\/finance with\u00a0CTC Disability Services.<\/p>\n
