The Mayor’s Ball at Kingaroy Town Hall was sold out on Saturday night with 350 patrons eager to enjoy a sparkling night for a good cause.<\/p>\n

The ball was initiated by former South Burnett Mayor Wayne Kratzmann but it proved so popular that current South Burnett Mayor Keith Campbell kept it going when he took office in 2016.<\/p>\n

The bi-annual ball raises funds for charity, and includes raffles and an auction as well as entertainment and a South Burnett-themed dinner.<\/p>\n

Mayor Campbell’s first charity ball, held in 2017, raised more than $55,000 for the South Burnett Community Hospital Foundation.<\/p>\n

This year’s recipient will be the Red Earth Community Foundation, the not-for-profit organisation behind the South Burnett Community Leadership Program which is held annually at the Bunya Mountains.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The event had a “Country Meets City” theme but all the guests opted for the posh city look rather than the latest RM Williams’ fashion.<\/p>\n

Saturday’s rain meant the pre-dinner drinks were held inside the Town Hall rather than in the Glendon Street Forecourt, but no one seemed to mind as platters of canap\u00e9s were offered around by the young waiters.<\/p>\n

Comedian Joel Ozborn and musicians Franky Smart provided the entertainment as the evening continued.<\/p>\n

Nineteen items – many donated by local businesses – went under the hammer in the auction, and 21 prizes were given away in the raffle.<\/p>\n

A Council spokesperson said the takings from the night were still being counted with a final figure expected to be released on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
