Darling Downs Health has created a new job, based in Kingaroy, aimed at identifying and supporting young people\u00a0at risk of a mental health illness.<\/p>\n

Ed-LinQ\u00a0co-ordinator Anita Smith will be responsible for the South Burnett and Western Downs regions.<\/p>\n

She said the position was aimed at building and strengthening relationships between schools, primary care, community and mental health services as well as identifying and supporting children or young people.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe all know education is important for all children and young people,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut unfortunately, children who are experiencing mental health difficulties are more likely to disengage from education, have difficulties gaining and maintaining employment, and therefore difficulties with financial security.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are also long-term mental and physical health outcomes, as well as impacting factors for friends and family caring for the child or young people.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll of these potential outcomes, really highlight the importance of early intervention.\u201d<\/p>\n

Anita has previously worked as a psychologist in the Toowoomba and Western Downs mental health services.<\/p>\n
