Every week, students at St Mary’s Catholic College in Kingaroy are turning into an ogre, a dragon, a donkey and other assorted characters.<\/p>\n

The 60 or so students are practising hard for the school’s annual musical, which this year is Disney’s “Shrek”.<\/p>\n

In the story, Shrek (an ogre) finds his swamp overrun by fairytale creatures which have been banished by the corrupt Lord Farquaad, who wants to be king. Shrek makes a deal with Farquaad to regain control of his swamp in return for rescuing Princess Fiona. With the help of Donkey, Shrek embarks on his quest …<\/p>\n

The cast and backstage crew are made up of Year 4-10 students but all the leads are from the Year 10 drama class, and the production forms part of their annual assessment.<\/p>\n

Costumes director Bron Langford Martoo said this was the fourth year the college had put on a Disney musical.<\/p>\n

Shrek follows successful productions of Peter Pan, Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid.<\/p>\n

The students will be putting on three evening shows for the public: at 6:00pm on June 14, June 21 and June 22.<\/p>\n

Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children and pensioners or $20 for a family pass (two adults + two children).<\/p>\n
