Darling Downs Health Board members have inspected $135,000 worth of renovations recently completed at Murgon Hospital.<\/p>\n

Board members visited the South Burnett on Tuesday for their monthly meeting and took advantage of the opportunity to inspect the refurbished Women’s Ward at the hospital.<\/p>\n

Chairman Mike Horan said the extensive renovations were a great improvement for the local community.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIt is exciting for the hospital and local community to have a fully renovated women\u2019s ward open for use,\u201d Mr Horan said.<\/p>\n

The 1o-week infrastructure project consisted of the total removal of asbestos sheeting, replacement of floor coverings, and the installation of a new electrical system,\u00a0 fixtures and fittings.<\/p>\n

Building, Engineering and Maintenance (BEMS) workshop manager Brad Crossingham said the major renovations also included the entire internal framing of the walls, the levelling of floors and the renovation of two bathrooms.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe five-bed ward also received a new paint job and an upgraded hot water system,\u201d Mr Crossingham said.<\/p>\n

The majority of the renovations were completed by internal trade staff with some assistance from local contractors.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a tremendous effort for majority of the project to be completed by our own BEMS staff,\u201d Mr Horan said.<\/p>\n

\u201cMurgon Hospital staff and community members should be proud of the work they have done here.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d also like to thank the Murgon Hospital auxiliary who donated the curtains to brighten up the ward.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Horan said every second Board meeting was held in a different rural location, which allowed members to meet staff members and community members.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are visiting the South Burnett region this week and it has been a great pleasure to acknowledge our long serving staff members with length-of-service awards presented at Murgon, Nanango, and Cherbourg Hospitals,” he said.<\/p>\n
