{"id":235861,"date":"2019-05-18T21:32:54","date_gmt":"2019-05-18T11:32:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=235861"},"modified":"2020-07-20T11:47:08","modified_gmt":"2020-07-20T01:47:08","slug":"lnp-locks-down-local-seats","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2019\/05\/18\/lnp-locks-down-local-seats\/","title":{"rendered":"LNP Locks Down Local Seats"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_235862\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-235862\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/20190518vote.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-235862\" src=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/20190518vote.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/20190518vote.jpg 620w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/20190518vote-300x186.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-235862\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The South Burnett&#8217;s three LNP candidates have come out on top after Saturday&#8217;s voting<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>May 18, 2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The South Burnett&#8217;s three Federal seats &#8211; Maranoa, Flynn and Wide Bay &#8211; will all remain in LNP hands in line with the blue tide that has swept across Queensland.<\/p>\n<p>Early counting removed any LNP fears Ken O&#8217;Dowd could lose Flynn, the Gladstone-based seat that also takes in Proston and Wondai.<\/p>\n<p>At 9:00pm on Saturday, Mr O&#8217;Dowd had recorded an 8.4 per cent swing in his favour and was leading his ALP opponent Zac Beers 59.4 per cent to 40.6 per cent on a two-party preferred basis.<\/p>\n<p>Mr O&#8217;Dowd, who previously held the seat with a slim 1 per cent margin, was also leading strongly on first preference votes: 36.5 per cent to 29.2 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>One Nation candidate Sharon Lohse was coming in third with 19.9 per cent. The majority of her preferences would be expected to flow to the LNP.<\/p>\n<p>The other candidates were all in single-digit figures.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In Wide Bay, which takes in Murgon and Cherbourg, the LNP&#8217;s Llew O&#8217;Brien was always expected to win, sitting comfortably on an 8.2 per cent margin.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At 9:15pm on Saturday, Mr O&#8217;Brien had recorded a 5.1 per cent swing in his favour and was leading ALP candidate Jason Scanes 63.3 per cent to 36.7 per cent on a two-party basis.<\/p>\n<p>Mr O&#8217;Brien had picked up 46.6 per cent of first preference votes, in comparison to the ALP&#8217;s 22.4 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>One Nation candidate Aaron Vico was in third spot with 11.0 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>All other candidates were in single digits.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In the massive seat of Maranoa, which also includes Kingaroy, Nanango and Blackbutt, sitting member David Littleproud has picked up a 6.9 per cent swing in his favour.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>He was formerly holding the seat with a 17.5 per cent margin so the result was never in doubt.<\/p>\n<p>At 9:30pm on Saturday, Mr Littleproud had attracted 72.8 per cent of the vote on a two-party preferred basis.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Littleproud secured 54.8 per cent of first preference votes, ahead of Labor&#8217;s Linda Little (16.4 per cent) and One Nation (15.1 per cent).<\/p>\n<p>All other candidates were in single digits.<\/p>\n<p>Opposition Leader and Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington described it as &#8220;an incredible effort&#8221; by the LNP.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #006699;\"><strong>UPDATE Sunday (May 19):<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Flynn<\/strong> &#8211; At 3:30pm, the swing to the LNP was 5.2 per cent with 75 per cent of the vote counted. Ken O&#8217;Dowd (LNP) had 56.3 per cent of the vote; ahead of Zac Beers (ALP) 43.7 per cent.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Wide Bay<\/strong> &#8211; At 8:30pm, the swing to the LNP was 4.5 per cent with 75.6 per cent counted. Llew O&#8217;Brien (LNP) had 62.7 per cent, ahead of Jason Scanes (ALP) on 37.3 per cent.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Maranoa<\/strong> &#8211; At 4:45pm, the swing to the LNP was 6.1 per cent with 70.2 per cent counted.
