It was an honour to be a part of the Kingaroy’s Anzac Day commemorations this year.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I must congratulate Don Davey, the president of the Kingaroy-Memerambi RSL, and his Sub-Branch members for organising the event.<\/p>\n

School children and community members throughout the Nanango electorate turned out in force again to support this important day in our nation’s calendar.<\/p>\n

I’d also like to pass on a huge thank-you to the school students who laid a wreath on my behalf at many local ceremonies around the electorate.<\/p>\n

This year I attended Kingaroy’s Commemoration Service, which began with a very large parade and saw a very large turn-out at the war memorial.<\/p>\n

Then I headed out to Wondai’s race course in the afternoon for the South Burnett Race Club’s annual Anzac Day meeting.<\/p>\n

The race club’s Anzac Day Races are a fundraiser for Legacy, and good crowds meant a great result for the organisers.<\/p>\n

Murgon’s Local Ambulance Commitee members let me practice CPR on one of their training dummies at the Easter Fair … but I think I need more practice to get really good at it<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Murgon Easter Fair<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

After having their Christmas Carnival rained out several times in the past few years, the Murgon Business and Development Association were determined not to be beaten.<\/strong><\/p>\n

So, they created the Murgon Easter Fair this year, and their hard work paid off.<\/p>\n

The new Easter Fair was a fun night that was so well supported by the community and local businesses it now looks like becoming an annual event.<\/p>\n

Well done!<\/p>\n

The Murgon Men’s Shed have built a very large complex next to the former Murgon Railway Station, and the historic old railway station building forms part of it<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Murgon Men Get Busy<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

The men at the Murgon Men’s Shed invited me to their weekly smoko recently to check out their Shed.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Like so many men\u2019s sheds, the Murgon Men’s Shed is a life-line to many and a great way to spend a few hours.<\/p>\n

The Murgon Men’s Shed has around 60 paid-up members, and many gather at meetings each week to work on projects, either alone or as a team.<\/p>\n

Nanango and Kilcoy Shows<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Our region has amazing local agricultural shows, and over the past few weeks I’ve been to both the Nanango and Kilcoy Shows.<\/strong><\/p>\n

At Kilcoy, I\u00a0was honoured to present Show Society Life Membership to Gary Webster and be involved in the prime cattle presentations.<\/p>\n

As a sponsor of the School Display competition, I was also given the difficult job of judging – but well done to Mount Kilcoy State School,\u00a0who took out the top prize.<\/p>\n

At Nanango I always enjoy working on the Show’s rodeo can bar and this year I shared the duties with our Federal Member for Maranoa, David Littleproud and South Burnett Cr Roz Frohloff, where we had a lot of fun and a great afternoon.<\/p>\n

Coming up this weekend is the Kingaroy Show, so get along to it if you can!<\/p>\n

Byee Road at Wheatlands is one of several state-controlled roads in my electorate that urgently need an upgrade, and I’m agitating to get them all fixed<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Byee Road<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

This is Byee Road at Wheatlands in the north of the Nanango Electorate, and the sign says it all: what a disgrace!<\/strong><\/p>\n

While there are works planned for the stretch between Kangaroo Yard and Flats roads, you almost need a high clearance vehicle on the section heading towards Wheatlands State School.<\/p>\n

I committed to fix this road at the last election, and I won’t stop until it’s done.<\/p>\n

I’ve asked TMR (as it\u2019s a State-managed road) when it will be repaired, because I think it\u2019s simply unacceptable it\u2019s reached this condition.<\/p>\n

There are many other roads in our electorate in a similar condition, and I’ll continue to highlight these as needing urgent funding.<\/p>\n

Round 8 Local Heroes Announced<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Round 8 of my Local Hero Grants have been announced with six local groups and sporting representatives chosen as \u2018local heroes\u2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Normally four grants are awarded in each round, but the high quality of applications meant an extra two grants have been awarded.<\/p>\n

Congratulations to the successful applicants,\u00a0who will each receive a $250 Local Hero Grant:<\/p>\n
