Wondai’s 22nd Garden Expo was a huge success over the Easter weekend … despite the number of competing events on offer around the South Burnett.<\/p>\n

By 1:00pm on Saturday, more than a 1000 people had come through the gates, and they just kept on coming the rest of Saturday afternoon and on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Wondai Garden Expo president Helen Young said the event just kept on growing and evolving.<\/p>\n

She thanked all the stallholders who had supported the event this year, the old favourites plus the new faces.<\/p>\n

And she thanked the team of volunteers – especially from the Wondai QCWA, Wondai Lions and the Wondai Garden Club – who made it happen, as well as local businesses that supported the event.<\/p>\n

“It’s now one of the most long-lived events in the region,” she said.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the official opening, South Burnett Deputy Mayor Kathy Duff said the crowd was “awesome, considering how many other things are on”.<\/p>\n

Cr Duff, given the task of officially opening the show, whipped out her trusty roll of pink ribbon.<\/p>\n

She’s been known to use pink scissors, a chainsaw and a hedge trimmer to open local events … but this time the chore fell on the shoulders (or teeth) of Wondai Garden Expo committee member Peter Biltoft, much to the laughter of onlookers.<\/p>\n
