Anyone who enjoys playing the bagpipes, snacking on shortbread or maybe enjoys a Highland fling should mark Thursday, April 11, in their diary.<\/p>\n

A special meeting will be held in Kingaroy Library at noon to determine if there’s interest in forming a South Burnett Scottish Society.<\/p>\n

All Scotsmen and women – and people of Scottish ancestry – are very welcome to come along.<\/p>\n

The meeting has been called by Australia’s Clan MacKinnon leader Lynnsay Fryer.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lynnsay said he’s had a strong interest in Celtic music all his life, and as he grew older came to appreciate the complexity of Scottish culture.<\/p>\n

“There’s a lot more to it than wearing a kilt, cooking shortbread and raiding the sassenachs, you know,” Lynnsay said.<\/p>\n

“Robbie Burns’ birthday on January 25 is important to Scots all around the world, and so are bagpipes and aged single malts.<\/p>\n

“And if we formed a local Scottish Society, I think we could have a lot of fun with it.”<\/p>\n

Lynnsay regularly attends Boondooma Homestead’s Scots In The Bush festival each August, and plans to camp out there this year.<\/p>\n

“Right now it’s the closest thing to Scotland in the South Burnett, but a Scottish Society could help spread the joy,” he said.<\/p>\n

Well-known local Scots identity Gervais Fullerton, who performs the Address Tae’ The Haggis at Scots In The Bush each year, will also be attending Thursday’s meeting.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lynnsay said “Gervie” plans to show visitors some pithy Gaelic curses they can use as needed, and may also share his secret recipe for starting an uprising, which involves twelve Scotsmen and a set of bagpipes.<\/p>\n

There’s no fee to attend the gathering, but seating is limited so an RSVP to the library would be helpful: (07) 4189-9256.<\/p>\n
