The 2019 Darling Downs AFL competition got off to a damp start in Kingaroy on Saturday with the South Burnett Saints facing up to their old rivals, the Goondiwindi Hawks, in a match that had been tipped as the Game of the Round.<\/p>\n

However, the Hawks led at every change in wet and slippery conditions at Lyle Vidler Oval.<\/p>\n

Veteran Saints’ player Adam Bowater landed three goals with Matthew Patroni, Brenton Noe and Jarryd Hill (two goals) also putting in good performances in tough conditions.<\/p>\n

The final score was Goondiwindi 20.12-132 to Saints 6.6-42.<\/p>\n

The Saints’ best quarter came after half-time when they landed three goals but they fell off in the last, allowing Goondiwindi to scoot away.<\/p>\n

The Saints’ next game will be against the Highfields Lions at Highfields next Saturday.<\/p>\n
