St John’s Lutheran School principal Helen Folker, teacher Sue Hyde – who was part of the first St John’s class in 1989 – and Year 9 students are busy preparing for Saturday’s 30th anniversary celebrations<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

March 28, 2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hundreds of former students and teachers are expected to attend 30th anniversary celebrations at St John\u2019s Lutheran School in Kingaroy on Saturday (March 30).<\/p>\n

“A Day of Celebration” will mark 30 years since the school opened in 1989 with a total enrolment of just 26 students.<\/p>\n

There are now 430 primary and secondary students at the school.<\/p>\n

The celebrations will get under way at 10:00am with a ceremonial ringing of the original school bell.<\/strong><\/p>\n

They will continue through to 2:00pm with old-time games, baked goods, market stalls, face painting, jumping castles and plenty of other family-friendly entertainment.<\/p>\n

Principal Helen Folker said school tours and history displays were also planned.<\/p>\n

“So much has changed since we first opened our doors in 1989,” Mrs Folker said.<\/p>\n

“There used to be a sorghum crop where the school buildings now stand and the land around was virtually undeveloped.<\/p>\n

“Our first school house and classrooms were purchased for the grand sum of $1500 and transported on the back of a truck from the other side of Kumbia.<\/p>\n

“We now have a thriving school community with wonderful facilities including a fully equipped library, office and multi-purpose school hall and sports facilities.<\/p>\n

“I can\u2019t wait to see what the next 30 years will bring!”<\/p>\n

The Celebration Day is being co-ordinated by the school\u2019s P&F with assistance from Year 9 students, who will be running activities at the event and competing to raise money.<\/p>\n

Whipcracking and dance performances are also planned.<\/p>\n

The event will also mark one of Helen Folker\u2019s last official engagements as principal of St John\u2019s Lutheran School. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Mrs Folker has worked at the school since 1989 and became principal in 2000.<\/p>\n

Everyone is welcome to attend.<\/p>\n
