The University of Southern Queensland has welcomed new Federal Government incentives to attract more international students to study outside the big cities.<\/p>\n

The Federal Government has unveiled its “Destination Australia Program” as part of its decentralisation strategy to drive growth and development in regional Australia.<\/p>\n

USQ Vice-Chancellor Professor Geraldine Mackenzie said the announcement included scholarships and visa changes.<\/p>\n

The new program will also encourage more Australian students to study in regional Australia.<\/strong><\/p>\n

More than 1000 scholarships of $15,000 will be offered per year to support the study and living expenses associated with studying a Certificate IV to Doctorate level qualification at a regional campus of an eligible tertiary education provider.<\/p>\n

\u201cInternational students studying at regional universities will have access to an extra year on a post-study work visa,” Prof Mackenzie said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese are important steps in the right direction, helping to cement higher education\u2019s place in broader regional development.<\/p>\n
