Residents who feel they have received an unfair valuation on their properties have just over six weeks to lodge an objection.<\/p>\n

Valuations were released recently for all properties in the South Burnett and Gympie council areas.<\/p>\n

Although values dropped or remained static in many areas, valuations for some rural land in the South Burnett rose sharply.<\/p>\n

Despite the drought, rural land within the South Burnett rose by an average 29 per cent.<\/p>\n

In the Gympie area,\u00a0 three towns \u2013 Amamoor, Dagun and Kandanga \u2013 had rises of more than 70 per cent, and others had rises of between 5 and 10 per cent, including Kilkivan and Woolooga.<\/p>\n

Member for Gympie Tony Perrett said that if any landowner has an objection to their New Unimproved Valuation they should lodge it as soon as possible.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI have received numerous complaints about the increase in valuations especially in rural areas across the region,\u201d Mr Perrett said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese valuations are used by the local government to calculate rate assessments, and the State Government uses it for land rent assessments.<\/p>\n

\u201cResidents have 47 days until May 7 to put in an objection and I encourage anyone with issues to lodge their complaint.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are strict requirement for how to lodge so it is important not to leave it to the last minute.<\/p>\n

\u201cObjections must be in the approved form and grounds explaining why the valuation is incorrect must be provided.\u201d<\/p>\n
