Yarraman community radio station Wild Horse FM held a special dinner at Heritage House on Friday to honour country music presenters Bob and Michelle Ovenden who each won awards at Tamworth recently.<\/p>\n

Bob and Michelle each picked up a Gold Medallion Media Award<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>for a recent recording.<\/p>\n

Bob won the “Best New Talent” award for South-East (Victoria \/ Tasmania) for his version of an old country song, “The Road”, by Tim Harris.<\/p>\n

Michelle won the “Best New Talent” award for Queensland for her own composition, “Now I’m Letting Go”.<\/p>\n

The Gold Medallion Awards are judged by radio presenters and broadcasters throughout Australia who cast their votes by nominating artist\/track selections.<\/p>\n

Albums released from October 1, 2011 to September 30, 2012 were eligible.<\/p>\n

The recording artists are judged in categories determined by their “state of origin”, ie where they were born or the adopted State which was their first home State in Australia (which is why Bob, now a proud Queenslander, was judged in the Victoria \/ Tasmania category).<\/p>\n

Eligible tracks are judged on each artist’s musical ability and appeal, the quality of the song, musical arrangements and the production quality of the track.<\/p>\n

The couple was stunned by their success, but Michelle especially so as she has only written about a dozen songs in the past 12 years.<\/p>\n

Both tracks appear on a compilation album, “LBS Country Collection Vol 17”, recorded at the Lindsay Butler Studios in Tamworth. \u00a0This album also won an award at Tamworth as the “Album of the Year” most-played on FM stations.<\/p>\n

While they were in Tamworth, Bob and Michelle played a number of gigs, including four concerts at the Lindsay Butler Studios, at the Gold Medallion awards night, and the Songwriters Concert at the Hogs Breath Cafe.<\/p>\n

They present country music on Wild Horse FM every Sunday afternoon from noon to 3:00pm. \u00a0Bob plays “Classic Country” songs from noon to 1:00pm and from 2:00pm to 3:00pm; from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, Michelle presents “Country Women’s Style”.<\/p>\n
