{"id":230657,"date":"2019-03-11T18:04:24","date_gmt":"2019-03-11T08:04:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=230657"},"modified":"2020-07-22T12:42:16","modified_gmt":"2020-07-22T02:42:16","slug":"new-group-to-organise-kingaroy-naidoc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2019\/03\/11\/new-group-to-organise-kingaroy-naidoc\/","title":{"rendered":"New Group To Organise<br> Kingaroy NAIDOC Event"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_230660\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-230660\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-230660\" src=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/20190311-sbatsi1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/20190311-sbatsi1.jpg 620w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/20190311-sbatsi1-300x186.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-230660\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Members of the not-for-profit South Burnett Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation met in Kingaroy last Thursday to begin planning this year&#8217;s NAIDOC Week celebrations<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>March 11, 2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A new Indigenous corporation will organise Kingaroy&#8217;s NAIDOC event in July, taking over from the South Burnett Regional Council which hosted the past two celebrations.<\/p>\n<p>The not-for-profit South Burnett Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation has been formed by Indigenous residents who live in the southern half of the region.<\/p>\n<p>Members met at the 1913 Council Chambers in Kingaroy last Thursday to begin planning the NAIDOC event.<\/p>\n<p>Secretary Val McGrath said some people found it difficult to travel to Cherbourg to attend NAIDOC activities.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Cherbourg organises really great NAIDOC Week celebrations,&#8221; Val said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We want to do the same in Kingaroy for the benefit of Indigenous and non-Indigenous people who can&#8217;t make it to Cherbourg for whatever reason.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re not in competition with Cherbourg.\u00a0Instead, we&#8217;re here to see if we can help make NAIDOC even bigger.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Val said the group intended to consult Cherbourg Elders about their plans.<\/p>\n<p>They also planned to invite Deputy Mayor Kathy Duff and Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington to attend their next meeting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NAIDOC Week will run nationally from July 7-14. <\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new Indigenous corporation will organise Kingaroy&#8217;s NAIDOC event in July, taking over from Council <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":20,"featured_media":230660,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[3],"tags":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
