It’s Queensland Women’s Week, which was a perfect excuse for BIEDO to hold another one of their popular Women in Agriculture (WAgs) days at the weekend.<\/p>\n

The WAg initiative was launched in 2017 and is part networking, part empowerment and part information sharing.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, about 60 women gathered at Durong Hall to listen to speakers and browse a range of stalls spread around the main room.<\/p>\n

Guest speakers were Teresa Staib, from Australian Naturals Online; entertainer Cilla Pershouse, from Blue Gum Farm TV; Women’s Health Nurse Marcia Hunt; Bec Clapperton, from Resource Consulting Services; and “spotlight” speaker\u00a0Tracy Anderson, from Anderlea Pork at Hivesville.<\/p>\n

“We wanted to focus on Burnett Inland women, to showcase them and celebrate them,” BIEDO CEO Kristy Frahm said.<\/p>\n

“Everyone has a story to tell.”<\/p>\n

Previous WAGs events have been held at Mondure, Eidsvold, Kilkivan, Monto and Biggenden.<\/p>\n

A new idea tested at the Durong meeting was a “panel session” where speakers shared thoughts about “investment” and fielded questions from the audience.<\/p>\n

Surprisingly, their ideas about investment weren’t about dollars or property.<\/p>\n

“Every single one of them talked about investment in family, investment in self and investment in community,” Kristy said.<\/p>\n

The panel was made up of four of the earlier speakers plus Jess Bargenquast, from sponsors Northern AgriServices.<\/p>\n

Information about the Red Earth Community Foundation’s South Burnett Community Leadership Program was also shared after Kristy realised that at least a dozen of the women in the room were alumni of the program.<\/p>\n

The next WAgs day will be held in Mundubbera on October 15.<\/p>\n
