There was a damp start to the “Turn The Screws” Neighbourhood Watch event in Kingaroy on Saturday, but that didn’t deter about 100 motorists turning up.<\/p>\n

Volunteers from the police, Kumbia and Murgon Neighbourhood Watch groups and the community worked hard to fit one-way screws to drivers’ number plates, all for a gold coin donation.<\/p>\n

Office-in-charge of Kingaroy Police, Senior Sergeant Dave Tierney, said more than $320 was raised for Kumbia Neighbourhood Watch.<\/p>\n

As an added incentive to get the work done – which deters number plate thieves – the drivers’ names also went to into the draw for to win two great prizes.<\/p>\n

The lucky winners’ names were drawn on Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n

Berry Hosking won 15 litres of Wattyl Solagard paint, donated by Crowies; and Thelma Jensen won a combined GPS \/ dashcam, donated by Repco Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

“Our thanks go to Repco and Crowies for donating the lucky car prizes and to the public for their support,” Snr Sgt Tierney said.<\/p>\n
