The third Community Health Expo organised by Murgon Area Community Health Nurses attracted a strong turnout of stallholders at the South Burnett PCYC on Thursday night.<\/p>\n

There was information on hand from both not-for-profit groups and commercial companies but all linked to the expo theme “Focus On You” ie. safety at home, at work and online.<\/p>\n

Guest speakers included Senior Constable Danielle Gordon, from Dalby, who spoke about cyberbullying.<\/p>\n

The expo was officially opened by South Burnett Mayor Keith Campbell who said safety meant different things at different times in our lives, but it always had to be the paramount issue embedded in our minds.<\/p>\n

A highlight of the expo was the kitchen fire display put on by Murgon firefighters outside the main pavilion.<\/p>\n

The flames roaring into the sky demonstrated graphically why you should NEVER try to put out a burning pan of oil fire on the stove with water.<\/p>\n

The correct way is by using a fire blanket, which will smother the flames.<\/p>\n

Guest speaker was rugby league legend and sports presenter, Shane Webcke, who is Queensland\u2019s Safety Ambassador.<\/p>\n

Shane spoke about the importance of work safety so everyone can return home to their families.<\/p>\n

The volunteers from the Murgon’s Men Shed were doing a roaring trade with their barbecue while the Murgon Hospital Auxiliary offered tea, coffee and slices for a gold coin donation.<\/p>\n

Other talks focussed on injury prevention, medication safety and safety in the home.<\/p>\n

The first of the Health Expos was held in Murgon in September 2016. This was followed by a similar Health Expo at Proston last year.<\/p>\n
