Junior cricketers in Nanango now have $1000 worth of training gear to help improve their skills thanks to a lucky local resident.<\/p>\n

Nanango children’s author and artist Karen Russell is a keen cricket fan.<\/p>\n

She entered a competition run by the Brisbane Heat and KFC to support grassroots cricket.<\/p>\n

Karen had to describe in 25 words or less which three Brisbane Heat players she would pick and why in her ultimate backyard cricket team.<\/p>\n

And she won!<\/p>\n

Karen earned herself an autographed Brisbane Heat jersey, and her nominated team, the Nanango Scorpions, won $1000 worth of gear.<\/p>\n

Queensland Cricket Market Development Officer (Sunshine Coast) Nic Roberts presented the gear to the excited young cricketers on Thursday afternoon in Nanango.<\/p>\n

The kit includes a scoreboard as well as modified bats and balls – all designed to teach and practise various skills – along with ground markers, special stumps and sliders.<\/p>\n

The amazing thing is that Karen has no personal connection with the Scorpions club … she simply nominated them to support a local community group.<\/p>\n

One good turn deserves another …<\/strong><\/p>\n

Karen will be giving a talk about how she developed her award-winning book “Deakon The Dragon Is Sad” at The Shed in Little Drayton Street, Nanango, at 1:30pm on Saturday, revealing all the ups and downs of the project and passing on useful real-life tips for aspiring authors.<\/p>\n

Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children, and there’ll be an afternoon tea as well.<\/p>\n

Karen’s artworks will also be on display and for sale, and signed copies of her book will be available for $15.<\/p>\n
