The list of roads either graded – or about to be graded – took up a substantial chunk of time at Wednesday’s South Burnett Regional Council meeting.<\/p>\n

In January, Council work crews carried out patrol grades on 27 roads in the Brooklands, Kunioon, Goodger, Barkers Creek Flat, Hodgleigh, Coolabunia, Nanango, South Nanango, Wilkesdale and Cushnie areas.<\/p>\n

The SBRC plans to patrol grade a further 61 roads by the end of February.<\/p>\n

These will be in the Ballogie, Wilkesdale, South Nanango, East Nanango, Wooroolin, Tingoora, Gordonbrook, Glan Devon, Speedwell, Kinleymore, Proston, Okeden and Wigton areas.<\/p>\n

Roads portfolio holder Cr Gavin Jones forecast a further 61 roads would receive a patrol grade by the end of March, weather permitting.<\/p>\n

The aggressive road maintenance schedule is tackling light to moderately trafficked unsealed roads, and roads which have become badly degraded.<\/p>\n

Cr Jones said Council workers usually gave this class of roads a dry grade, but had recently been able to obtain the use of a water tanker.<\/p>\n

This allowed them to carry out patrol grades instead, which would yield a better end result.<\/p>\n

As well, 10 regional roads with higher traffic volumes were scheduled to receive a heavy formation grade and gravel resheeting by the end of February.<\/p>\n

In January, gravel resheeting was carried out on Kawl Kawl Road at Kawl Kawl, and Meiers Road north of Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

Gravel resheeting has been scheduled in February for:<\/strong><\/p>\n

  • Shellytop Road, Durong<\/li>\n
  • Booie Road, Booie<\/li>\n
  • Weens Road, west of Kingaroy<\/li>\n
  • Dangore Mountain Road, Dangore<\/li>\n
  • McLean Road, Durong<\/li>\n
  • Jacksons Road, Durong<\/li>\n
  • Haly Creek Road, Haly Creek<\/li>\n
  • Royles Road, Coolabunia<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Over the past two months Council workers have also slashed the verges of many of the region’s highways and minor roads.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    An even more vigorous slashing program is planned for March as summer comes to an end.<\/p>\n

    Cr Jones said Council workers had also carried out pavement repairs to a number of roads in preparation for the annual bitumen reseal program, which is expected to begin shortly.<\/p>\n

    Meanwhile, construction crews were continuing work on Niagara Road, drainage improvements west of Bilboa Road at Boyneside, and drainage improvements in Blackbutt.<\/p>\n

    The reconstruction of a concrete floodway at Broad Creek is also expected to begin this month.<\/p>\n
