South Burnett Regional Council is calling for public submissions on possible designs for a Kingaroy town entry statement based on the Rogers Drive roundabout.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, South Burnett Mayor Keith Campbell said the $1.8 million roundabout, completed late last year, could form the basis of a “fantastic” entry to the town.<\/p>\n

“That particular roundabout is quite an entry statement when people arrive in Kingaroy from the Nanango side,” the Mayor said.<\/p>\n

“A lot of people have commented to me that it can be made to look even more fantastic with appropriate landscaping or whatever, so all ideas are welcome.”<\/p>\n

However, the Mayor cautioned any work would need to be undertaken in conjunction with the Department Of Transport and Main Roads (TMR).<\/strong><\/p>\n

“This is because TMR have limitations that need to be observed in regards to the size of plants, trees and that type of thing,” he said.<\/p>\n

“But we’re hoping even further along that section on the right hand side towards the Mitre 10 and Bunnings stores there’s even the possibility of some landscaping to occur there.<\/p>\n

“That would make it into a truly fantastic-looking entrance to Kingaroy.”<\/p>\n

The Mayor said he would welcome submissions from anyone who had ideas about the town entrance area.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Earlier this year, not-for-profit group South Burnett Arts Inc approached the Mayor with the suggestion that a peanut and navy bean sculpture, designed by former South Burnett artist Mark Shellshear more than a decade ago, could be erected on the site.<\/p>\n
