South Burnett Football president Troy Schultz has put the call out for senior soccer players eager to take part in the Toowoomba Football League competition this year.<\/p>\n

The combined South Burnett United team were premiers in the 2018 competition after defeating Willowburn White 3-2 in the Grand Final.<\/p>\n

But since then, the triumphant squad has lost several men.<\/p>\n

“It’s not confirmed yet that we will field a South Burnett United team in the Toowoomba competition this year,” Troy said.<\/p>\n

“We’re still three or four players short of where we need to be for the season.<\/p>\n

“Half a dozen people have left the area or have gone to uni since last year.<\/p>\n

“We’re on the lookout for people wanting to play in a more competitive league.”<\/p>\n

The local South Burnett soccer competition will kick off on March 9.<\/strong><\/p>\n

For the second year in a row, there will only be a single division in the men’s competition and a single division in the women’s competition.<\/p>\n

Each competition will include four teams: Gunners \/ Gunnettes, Barambah Bears, Nanango Panthers, and Wests.<\/p>\n

Thirteen South Burnett junior players have been selected to play in various aged groups for 2019 with the National Premier Leagues’ South-West Queensland Thunder.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The players travel are travelling twice a week to Toowoomba for training and play their games on Sundays.<\/p>\n

“The Thunder have recognised that the South Burnett has quite a good talent pool,” Troy said.<\/p>\n

The local players are Luke Beutel, Cody Carroll, Callum Francis, Zach Knight, Hannah Lee, Abbie-Jane Lord, Joel Macri, Ryan Maudsley, Lachlan Montgomery, Abbie Renouf-Dowdle, Jemma Vanderkolk, Jenna Wolski and Kaitlyn Zelinski.<\/p>\n

* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Eighteen Open teams have registered so far for the Kingaroy Soccer Sevens carnival which will be played at Tom Alford Oval on February 23-24.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As well, 10 Over 35s and 10 women’s teams are expected to join in.<\/p>\n

The carnival, organised by the Kingaroy Senior Soccer Club for more than 30 years, usually attracts teams from Brisbane, Hervey Bay, Toowoomba and the Sunshine Coast to compete in the three divisions.<\/p>\n

The carnival is returning this year after a major hiccup over fees, outside the control of the local organisers, meant the Soccer Sevens didn\u2019t go ahead in 2018.<\/p>\n
