The dream of building an $80,000 all-inclusive playground at Nanango’s Butter Factory Park is almost a quarter of the way to becoming a reality.<\/p>\n

The presentation of a cheque for $1000 on Friday – the proceeds of the 2018 Zombie Invasion Nanango – has taken the bank balance for the playground project to $4800.<\/p>\n

The Nanango community has banded together in a bid to raise $20,000 towards the cost.<\/p>\n

Heritage Nanango Community Fund (HNCF) has promised to contribute $3 for every $1 they raise, up to a maximum of $60,000.<\/p>\n

The idea for the playground came about after a suggestion by local mother Cheryl Warner.<\/p>\n

Cheryl\u2019s young son Jai has special needs, and the lack of local facilities has been forcing her to drive to Yarraman, Ipswich or the Sunshine Coast so her son can play.<\/p>\n

Several events have been held in Nanango to raise funds for the playground, but the biggest so far has been the Zombie Invasion, which was staged in November and was followed by an after-party at The Palace Hotel.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The invasion was the brainchild of Seren Ahlquist, who confirmed on Friday it would now become an annual event in Nanango, raising funds for local causes.<\/p>\n

The initial event was auspiced by the Nanango Tourism and Development Association (NaTDA) but Zombie Invasion Nanango has now formed a not-for-profit association in its own right and is planning more fundraising activities.<\/p>\n

Seren said if the $20,000 had not been raised before the 2019 Zombie Invasion was held, this event (date to be confirmed) would also support the park project.<\/p>\n

Zombie Invasion co-organiser\u00a0Stella Wade thanked South Burnett councillors Roz Frohloff and Danita Potter who each made donations from their\u00a0discretionary funds to help make the invasion a reality.<\/strong><\/p>\n

She also thanked The Palace Hotel and Heritage for their support.<\/p>\n

The $1000 cheque was presented to park project fundraising co-ordinator Jane Erkens.<\/p>\n

Seren said cash donations for the park project could be dropped in to Jane at Nanango Real Estate or left in any of the donation tins around town.<\/p>\n
