Ergon Energy meter readers will no longer enter yards where dogs are not securely restrained as part of new safety measures to be introduced next week.<\/p>\n

Meter readers from Ergon and Energex received 71 dog bites and reported 199 other incidents and close-calls between July 2017 and October 2018.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe safety of our employees has to come first and that means if there is a dog on a property that isn\u2019t restrained \u2013 we won\u2019t go in to do work of any kind,\u201d Area Manager Wayne Alderman said<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll talk to customers about what options are available and, if no one is home, we will leave information to help them do a self-read.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn some cases where there is a dangerous dog or known access issue, a remote read meter may be installed.\u201d<\/p>\n

The new Safe Entry measures will begin on Monday (January 14) and will apply to all properties regardless of whether they are in an urban or rural setting.<\/p>\n

\u201cErgon Energy will work with our customers and communities to make the new safety measures work so we have a good outcome for our people and our customers,\u201d Mr Alderman said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
