A pair of “grey nomads” who came to the South Burnett to lend a hand with BlazeAid – and stayed – celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Friday.<\/p>\n

Leo and Jenny (nee Brennan) Kleiss live at Mondure.<\/p>\n

The couple was married on December 21, 1968, at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Geelong.<\/p>\n

They lived on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria before shifting to Woombye on the Sunshine Coast in 1976.<\/p>\n

Over the years they had three children, and eight grandchildren.<\/p>\n

When they retired, they hit the road as “grey nomads”, travelling around Australia for about 10 years.<\/p>\n

In 2013, they joined the BlazeAid camp at Murgon which was set up to help local farmers whose properties had been damaged in the Australia Day floods.<\/p>\n

They made the decision then to settle permanently in the region.<\/p>\n

“We liked the people around here so much,” Jenny said.\u00a0“The people are really lovely.”<\/p>\n

Leo and Jenny bought a rural residential block at Mondure three years ago and quickly became involved with the local community.<\/p>\n

Jenny is a member of the Mondure Rural Fire Brigade and also volunteers at Meals on Wheels and the Wondai Driver Reviver stall.<\/p>\n

She’s also keen on gardening and is a member of the local gardening club.<\/p>\n

Jenny and Leo celebrated their Golden Anniversary quietly … and were more than a little embarrassed that they’d been “dobbed” in to southburnett.com.au<\/strong> by their daughter, Donna!<\/p>\n
