There were dark skies but the rain clouds held off for Goomeri’s annual Christmas Carnival on Saturday night.<\/p>\n

This is the second year the carnival, organised by Goomeri Lions Club, has been held at\u00a0Breitkreutz Oval (behind the swimming pool and skateboard park).<\/p>\n

Gympie Regional Council installed lights at the oval last year which has made it the perfect venue for the town’s annual party.<\/p>\n

Goomeri Lions president Neville Holden said the venue had attracted a good crowd again this year.<\/p>\n

Numbers picked up as the sun went down, peaking for the fireworks display – sponsored by Northern AgriServices – about 7:30pm.<\/p>\n

Visitors had the chance to win hams and Christmas cakes on the ham wheel.<\/p>\n

The top raffle prize was a holiday, sponsored by Waterfall Feedlot.<\/p>\n

The Lions’ chip van was kept busy and there were also market stalls, hot food for sale from the pavilion, ice creams and live music by Leon Smith and the Lime Burners (from Gympie).<\/p>\n

For the children, there was a jumping castle, pony rides and face painting plus\u00a0Santa Claus made time in his busy schedule to drop in …<\/p>\n

Christmas is now well and truly in the air in the South Burnett … special events were also held on Saturday in Boondooma, Blackbutt and Yarraman.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kumbia had its turn on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy’s Christmas Carnival is on this Thursday (December 13), Murgon is on Friday (December 14) and Proston is on Saturday (December 15).<\/p>\n

Kilkivan’s Christmas celebration is on Sunday (December 16).<\/p>\n

Nanango’s Blue Light Christmas Disco was held on Friday night but the town’s main Christmas Carnival will be held on Thursday, December 20.<\/p>\n

Wondai’s carnival will be held, as usual, on Christmas Eve.<\/p>\n
