{"id":225030,"date":"2018-12-08T12:30:42","date_gmt":"2018-12-08T02:30:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=225030"},"modified":"2020-07-25T13:13:55","modified_gmt":"2020-07-25T03:13:55","slug":"major-milestone-for-range-crossing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2018\/12\/08\/major-milestone-for-range-crossing\/","title":{"rendered":"Major Milestone For Range Crossing"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_176862\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-176862\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/palaszczuk-200.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-176862\" src=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/palaszczuk-200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"348\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/palaszczuk-200.jpg 200w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/palaszczuk-200-172x300.jpg 172w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-176862\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk (Photo: Twitter)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>December 8, 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The western section of the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing (TSRC) has opened to traffic for the first time, marking a major milestone for one of the State\u2019s largest infrastructure projects.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack said the completion of work on the western section of the project meant motorists could enjoy a new drive between Cranley and the Gore Highway before Christmas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is fantastic news for residents and visitors to the Toowoomba and Lockyer Valley regions,\u201d Mr McCormack said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople now have an opportunity to see the results of the hard work and skilled engineering that has supported the delivery of this world-class road project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is still more work to do on the eastern section at Ballard throughout the first half\u00a0of 2019, but when that is finished we will see a 41km-long toll road that passes\u00a0Toowoomba\u2019s northern side, linking the Warrego Highway at Helidon Spa in the east and\u00a0the Gore Highway at Athol in the west.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the partial opening of the $1.6 billion project was an historic day for Toowoomba and the Lockyer Valley region.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cToowoomba residents have been looking forward to this project for decades and it was certainly the talk of the town when I was there recently as part of our Governing from the Regions program,\u201d Ms Palaszczuk said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo know we\u2019re on the cusp of finally delivering it for the people of Toowoomba and the Lockyer Valley is something we should all celebrate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToowoomba is an important contributor to our State\u2019s economy and is a growing city. This bypass is critical to supporting its ambitions to become Australia\u2019s most innovative and productive rural city.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7138\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7138\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/john_mcveighf.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7138\" src=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/john_mcveighf.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"212\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7138\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Agriculture Minister John McVeigh<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Federal Member for Groom Dr John McVeigh said the partial opening in Cranley was an historic day for everyone from all levels of government who had contributed to the project over the years.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have been involved in planning, and now delivering, an alternate cross of the Toowoomba range for more than 20 years,\u201d Dr McVeigh said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe partial opening will provide new connections between Toowoomba\u2019s Central\u00a0Business District, Warrego Highway at Charlton, Toowoomba-Cecil Plains Road &#8211;\u00a0for\u00a0access to Wellcamp Airport &#8211; and the Gore Highway.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe opened section of TSRC between Charlton and Cranley provides a new connection for cars and light commercial vehicles between the logistics hub at Charlton and the CBD, via Mort Street.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis section is also a B-double route, providing access from Charlton to the New England Highway for travel north from Toowoomba.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_98541\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-98541\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-98541\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Queensland Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the once-in-a-generation project for the region would deliver economic benefits over decades to come.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Second Range Crossing is projected to contribute more than $2.4 billion in economic and productivity gains for Toowoomba businesses and industry over the next 30 years,\u201d Mr Bailey said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLocal participation from the Toowoomba and Lockyer Valley region on the project was measured at just over 80 per cent in the total dollar value of contracts with up to 1800 direct and indirect jobs forecast to be created during construction, operation and maintenance stages of the project<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe local economic benefits are clear, but the wider freight industry also stands to gain from this visionary project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe look forward to celebrating the full road completion with a fantastic community event mid-next year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Bailey said the TSRC provided access to the newly opened truck stop and decoupling pad on Nass Road at Charlton through traffic signals installed at the Warrego Highway-Nass Road intersection.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis will enable operators to reconfigure vehicles on the pad before travelling east of Charlton,\u00a0check their loads and take a break,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nexus Infrastructure Chairman John Witheriff said the opportunity to showcase the new road was just a small taste of things to come when the spectacular eastern range section through to Helidon Spa opens.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe newly opened section highlights some of the value-adding options in the design that meant Nexus could provide a higher standard of road for the available funding,\u201d Mr Witheriff said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs part of our tender, we included grade-separated interchanges so there could be uninterrupted through movements at the Warrego Highway western interchange at Charlton, Toowoomba-Cecil Plains Road and Gore Highway.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Witheriff said other features of Nexus\u2019 design included four lanes (two each way) from Helidon Spa to Charlton.<\/p>\n<p>Tolls would be announced closer to the opening of the whole road, with the toll gantry to be located east of the newly opened section.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Key features of the opened section include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Four lanes (two lanes each way) between Cranley and Charlton (9km)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Two lanes (one each way) between Charlton and Athol (15km)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Grade-separated interchanges at Cranley, Charlton, Wellcamp and Athol<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Access to the Nass Road truck stop and decoupling pad at Charlton<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>A grade separated connection to Boundary Street<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Sections of centre line widening to reduce the risk of head-on crashes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>The expected completion of the upgrade on Griffiths Street by Toowoomba Regional Council in coming weeks will complete the permanent link between the TSRC and New England Highway at Harlaxton.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Griffiths Street will be a designated multi-combination vehicle route with as-of-right access for B-doubles to the New England Highway.<\/p>\n<p>From December 8, B-doubles using this route wyill be detoured via Jellicoe Street until the upgrade is
