Farmers are being encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to recycle their used oil.<\/p>\n

Waste management company J.J. Richards & Sons offers free oil collections in the South Burnett and Toowoomba council areas, as well as the Balonne, Charleville, Goondiwindi, Southern Downs, Lockyer Valley and Western Downs regions.<\/p>\n

Queensland Farmers\u2019 Federation president Stuart Armitage said the initiative had already collected more than 30,000 litres of used oil from farms across the State.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis program assists farmers to manage a difficult waste stream generated from farming operations and reduce its on-farm hazard potential,\u201d Mr Armitage said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWaste oils can pose environmental harm if not adequately stored or disposed of and during natural disasters, including flood and fire, can pose significant health and safety risks.”<\/p>\n
