Nanango Little Athletics Club’s plans to build a long jump pit and grandstand at Nanango State High School will be able to take another big leap forward, thanks to a grant from the Federal Government.<\/p>\n

The club, which trains at the high school, secured a $35,000 grant towards their project from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund in October.<\/p>\n

They’ll now be able to tip an extra $10,000 into it, thanks to a grant from the Stronger Communities Program.<\/p>\n

The extra grant was announced on Friday by Member for Maranoa David Littleproud.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnder the Stronger Communities funding guidelines, projects have to deliver community benefits,” Mr Littleproud said. <\/strong><\/p>\n

“The Little Athletics Club\u2019s vision will provide a wonderful opportunity for kids to get involved with a local sporting club.”<\/p>\n

Mr Littleproud said he hoped the new long jump pit and grandstand would be used not only by the Nanango Little Athletics Club, but also by other local schools and clubs in the area.<\/p>\n

“Some of my best memories from growing up were at school sports carnivals, so I understand the importance of having good facilities for local school groups to use,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

All federal electorates, including Maranoa, were allocated $150,000 under the Stronger Communities Program, with up to 20 projects being able to be funded.<\/p>\n

An Independent Assessment Panel reviewed all funding applications and successful projects were then invited to progress to the next phase, where their projects were then reviewed by the Department for final approval.<\/p>\n

Footnote:<\/strong> On December 5, Nanango Little Athletics also received a $4400 grant from the Coles Little Athletics Community Fund to purchase new hurdles, starting blocks and shot puts.<\/p>\n
