November 26, 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n

Smoke billowing over Kingaroy on Monday afternoon came from a large fire burning in vacant land behind houses in Knight Street.<\/p>\n

The fire, which was reported to emergency services at 4:20pm, quickly spread across grassland.<\/p>\n

Several fallen trees and timber stacks were also involved.<\/p>\n

A QFES spokesperson said heavy machinery had been called for to help break up the burning timber stack.<\/p>\n

At 5:10pm, seven fire crews were on the scene, including urban and rural brigades.<\/p>\n

Firefighters were spraying water on the fences of properties backing on to the area.<\/p>\n

Police were also monitoring the incident.<\/p>\n

The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.<\/p>\n

* * *<\/strong><\/p>\n

Earlier on Monday, fire crews were called to a blaze burning at Wattle Camp.<\/strong><\/p>\n

At 2:45pm, QFES issued a “Stay Alert” warning for this fire which was travelling in an easterly direction from Birch Road, north-east of Memerambi-Barkers Creek Road.<\/p>\n

At 5:10pm, 10 fire crews were still on the scene although a QFES spokesperson said properties were not under direct threat.<\/p>\n

The blaze destroyed a small shed.<\/p>\n

* * *<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fire crews also remained on scene on Monday at the Googa Creek fire, burning south of Blackbutt.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This fire broke out about 2:00pm on Sunday.<\/p>\n

No properties were under direct threat.<\/p>\n
