A 44-year-old Durong man who smashed a woman’s window with a stool then threw bottle at her, cutting her arm, has been sentenced to six months’ jail.<\/p>\n

He later “shaped up” to a female police officer and had to be capsicum sprayed before being arrested.<\/p>\n

The man appeared by videolink from Maryborough Correction Centre in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on Monday.<\/p>\n

He pleaded guilty to five charges relating to incidents which occurred on September 11 and October 10 this year at Durong.<\/p>\n

Taking into account 47 days already in custody, he will be released on parole on December 10.<\/p>\n

Police Prosecutor Pepe Gangemi said that on October 10, the man drove to a house occupied by a woman related to his former partner.<\/p>\n

He grabbed a stool and smashed a window, and snapped a pool cue over his knee.<\/p>\n

Sgt Gangemi said the man then pointed the broken pool cue at the woman and threatened to stab and kill her.<\/p>\n

“He brought a glass bottle with him. He threw the bottle at the victim … which hit her on the arm, causing a laceration which bled,” Sgt Gangemi said.<\/p>\n

Defence solicitor Chris Campbell said his client had drunk a full bottle of Captain Morgan rum, three-quarters of a bottle of Jack Daniels and had also taken several Tramadol tablets on the day.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“He lost the plot and behaved the way he did,” Mr Campbell said.<\/p>\n

Mr Campbell said the man had also been smoking cannabis the day before the incident.<\/p>\n

He said his client was receiving a disability pension for severe depression and drug-induced psychosis.<\/p>\n

The court was told he had been using speed from the age of 12 until he was 36 when he switched to methamphetamine.<\/p>\n

But Mr Campbell said his client had not used methamphetamine for about six months.<\/p>\n

“He started using pot to get off the meth,” Mr Campbell said.<\/p>\n

Mr Campbell said the man had left school in Year 6, and had been working as an interstate truck driver until he was caught drug-driving.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He now hoped to get a job in the construction industry and had completed a Certificate II while in custody.<\/p>\n

Magistrate Louisa Pink sentenced him to six months’ jail for assault occasioning bodily harm, two months’ jail for wilful damage and seven days for obstructing police, to be served concurrently.<\/p>\n
