Hivesville will get a standpipe soon to help residents in the district who rely on tank water.<\/p>\n

A recent Council analysis of three possible sites found one that could access a local water supply and had good signal reception for processing electronic transactions.<\/p>\n

However, construction will depend on whether the Council can get a grant from the Federal Government’s Drought Communities Program, or be forced to fund the project from its own resources.<\/p>\n

Water portfolio chair Cr Roz Frohloff told Wednesday’s Council meeting about the project.<\/p>\n

The Council already runs card-operated standpipes at Benarkin, Blackbutt and Nanango.<\/p>\n

The standpipes dispense drinking quality water for $4 per kilolitre, and are operated by tap-and-go debit or credit Visa or MasterCards.<\/p>\n

Purchases are limited to a minimum of $1 and maximum $99 per transaction.<\/p>\n

Council staff have been working on water main replacements in Murgon, Proston, Kingaroy and Nanango over the past few months:<\/strong><\/p>\n

  • In Murgon, work on Watt Street’s water main started on August 20 and is now complete<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
      \n
    • In Proston, work on replacing the Middle Road main began on October 29<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
        \n
      • In Kingaroy, work on Reen Street’s main replacement began on November 5<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
          \n
        • In Nanango, work on the second stage of Chester Street’s main replacement (ie Deakin Street) began on September 19 and is now 60 per cent complete; and work on Brisbane Street’s water main began on November 5<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          Staff have also been conducting hydrant testing and maintenance across all towns in the region.<\/p>\n

          All areas have now been completed except Kingaroy, where 40 per cent of hydrants have been inspected so far.<\/p>\n

          Level 3 water restrictions, which have been in place since July 2017, will continue until Boondooma and Bjelke-Petersen dams receive more significant inflows.<\/strong><\/p>\n

          Cr Frohloff said while both dams received some inflows from October’s storms, they had not been sufficient to alter current arrangements.<\/p>\n

          Level 3 restrictions ban the use of sprinklers and hand-held watering on Mondays.<\/p>\n

          Hand-held watering is permitted from 7:00am to 8:00am, and 5:00pm to 6:00pm, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays for odd-numbered houses; and during the same time periods on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays for even-numbered houses.<\/p>\n
