A funeral service will be held on Thursday (November 22) for the former “first lady” of Wondai Shire, Alison Iszlaub.<\/p>\n

Alison, 82, died peacefully on November 14 after a long illness.<\/p>\n

She was the wife of long-serving Wondai Mayor Percy Iszlaub, who died in February.<\/p>\n

The couple would have celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in October.<\/p>\n

Alison met Percy at the Wondai Show Ball; they married on October 18, 1968, and had two children, Jane and Leigh.<\/p>\n

Her hard work in the community ensured Alison became a Wondai icon in her own right.<\/p>\n

It was her tenacity and vision which made the Wondai Art Gallery a reality.<\/p>\n

Alison was the founder and curator of the gallery for many years and in 2012, the main exhibition space was re-named in her honour.<\/p>\n

Alison was also a founding member, and later patron, of South Burnett Arts Inc, a not-for-profit association established to encourage arts in the region.<\/p>\n

Her funeral will be held from 10:30am on Thursday at St Mary\u2019s Anglican Church in Baynes Street, Wondai, to be followed by interment at the Wondai Lawn Cemetery.<\/p>\n

She is survived by her two children, three grandchildren and brother, Graham Munro.<\/p>\n

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be considered for the Wondai Art Gallery (envelopes will be provided at the service).<\/p>\n
