Earlier this month Wondai was named the Tidiest Town in Queensland … now Wondai P-9 State School has been named Queensland’s Cleaner Greener School.<\/p>\n

The school was assessed by two Keep Queensland Beautiful judges during their visit to Wondai\u00a0in September.<\/p>\n

Principal Peter Sansby provided a guided tour of the school to the judges during their Tidy Towns assessment.<\/p>\n

Keep Queensland Beautiful CEO David Curtin was immediately impressed with the cleanliness of the school grounds.<\/p>\n

\u201cWondai State School is a fine example of what a school community can achieve within the sustainability framework,” he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt really doesn\u2019t take much to become sustainable.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom the typical water tanks and kitchen gardens, which are now standard in schools, Wondai has gone beyond that, with recycled pallet gardens, solar power and synthetic grass.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe award-winning Technology and Resource Centre has considered the well-being of students during our hot Queensland summers, with raised roofing and electronic louvres.<\/p>\n

\u201cGardens throughout the school are immaculate and mulched. A testament to the hard-working groundskeeper.”<\/p>\n

Mr Curtin said\u00a0common eyesores at many schools were the bike and school bag racks, overflowing with scooters and bike helmets.<\/p>\n

“Not at Wondai State School.\u00a0A dedicated \u2018scooter parking zone\u2019 encourages students to use an active method of transport to\/from school,” he said.<\/p>\n

A plaque recognising the achievement will be presented to the school next Wednesday when Keep Queensland Beautiful representatives re-visit Wondai.<\/p>\n
