Plans to build a Big Peanut in Kingaroy have come a tad unstuck after Chinchilla’ s “Big Watermelon” won Wotif’s competition to build Australia’s “Next Big Thing”.<\/p>\n

“The Big Watermelon” was delivered to the town’s Botanic Gardens on Tuesday morning and the\u00a0official announcement and unveiling will happen on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy was one of four finalists in Wotif’s competition alongside Mittagong, Glen Innes and Chinchilla.<\/p>\n

Each town had proposed an iconic “big” sculpture, and the winner was decided by public popular vote.<\/p>\n

Organisers of the Kingaroy Needs A Big Peanut Facebook page arranged a location for the statue at the Kingaroy bowls club, then ran a campaign urging supporters to vote for the town’s entry.<\/p>\n

Voting closed on September 25.<\/p>\n

But the push for a Big Peanut isn’t over despite the Chinchilla victory.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Big nutty congratulations to our friends across the way,” King Roy wrote on Facebook.<\/p>\n

“Don’t worry peanut fans, we don’t have all our nuts in one shell.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
