Heading out to one of our dams this Easter? Then you’d better beware that the Water Police will be targeting the new water regulations over Easter.<\/p>\n

Water Police will be out in force across Queensland conducting RBT operations, enforcing marine regulations and conducting safety equipment audits over the holiday period, including on the popular dams in south-east Queensland.<\/p>\n

State Water Police Coordinator Inspector David Kolb said Easter was traditionally a popular time on the water.<\/p>\n

He said officers would be paying particular attention to new stowage requirements for safety equipment and new laws for personal water crafts.<\/p>\n

“New laws which came into effect this year include personal water crafts such as jet skis maintaining a 30m distance from other moving vessels whenever they are travelling at more than 10 knots,” he said.<\/p>\n

Boaties are also being urged by police to take basic precautions before venturing out on the water.<\/p>\n

“This includes checking the boat\u2019s battery, a basic mechanical inspection especially when the boat may not have been used for some time,\u201d Inspector Kolb said.<\/p>\n
